Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Islamic Economics, Management, and Business (JIEMB) is published twice a year and invites the submission of original, research-based articles in the fields of Islamic economics, Islamic business, Islamic financial management, Islamic marketing management, Islamic human resource management, Islamic operational management, and Islamic philanthropy. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods are welcome.

Editors invite experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts in Islamic economics, management, and business to submit research articles to this journal. Articles should be original, research-based, unpublished, and not under review for possible publication in other journals. All submitted papers are subject to a thorough review process by the editors, editorial board, and blind reviewers. Submissions that do not adhere to our guidelines on formatting or length will be rejected without review.

Online Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts must be submitted online through the Journal of Islamic Economics, Management, and Business (JIEMB) online portal at:

Steps for submitting manuscripts:

  1. The author registers as an author (ensuring the author role is selected) on the “User Registration” page: https://journal.walisongo.ac.id/index.php/JIEMB/user/register.
  2. After logging in as an Author, click “New Submission.”
  3. The submission process consists of five stages:
    1. Start: Check all checklists, then click “Save & Continue.”
    2. Upload Submission: Upload the manuscript file in MS Word format. Click “Save & Continue.”
    3. Enter Metadata: Enter the data of all authors and their affiliations. For multiple authors, click “Add Author” and enter the data for each additional author. Fill in the title, abstract, keywords, research methods, and bibliography in the respective fields.
    4. Upload Supplementary Files: If applicable, upload supporting files such as cover letters or additional documents.
    5. Confirmation: Click "Finish Submission" after verifying that all data is correct.

General Instructions

  1. Articles should be formatted according to the writing pattern of a scientific journal. Writing must follow the rules set out in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), Sixth Edition. Authors are encouraged to use Mendeley or Zotero for reference management.   2. Articles must be original works (no plagiarism) and have never been published in a printed or online journal.
  3. During the review and editing process, or after the article is published, it may not be submitted to another journal.
  4. Articles should be submitted via the Open Journal Systems (OJS) at: https://journal.walisongo.ac.id/index.php/JIEMB/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions.
  5. Articles must be typed in Arial Nova font (11 pt) with 1.15 spacing in Microsoft Word format, using a B5 page size (182 x 257 mm). The length of the article should be between 4,000-8,000 words, including figures, graphs, and tables (if any).   6. Articles can be written in Indonesian or American English, adhering to grammatical rules. Articles in English should be written consistently either in American or British English. Articles in English should generally be written in the past tense.

Particular Instructions

  1. The article must be the result of empirical or theoretical research in Islamic economics, management, and business.
  2. Due to the “Blind Review” process, the author should not include their name, institution name, or email address within the manuscript itself. This information should only be provided during the registration process on the OJS platform. Authors should also include an active mobile number to facilitate communication.
  3. The content and structure of the articles should follow a narrative format without numbering for subheadings and should include the following components:
    • Title: The title should briefly summarize the content, be concise, and clearly formulated. Creativity is encouraged to attract readers. The title should be in bold, with the first word capitalized, using Arial Black font, 14 pt, centered.
    • Abstract: The abstract should be written in both English and Indonesian, in a single-spaced paragraph. It should be clear, concise, and descriptive, comprising five elements: (1) background; (2) purpose; (3) methodology; (4) results/findings; and (5) implications/contribution. Use Calibri font, 10 pt, justified. Ensure consistency in the use of fonts throughout the manuscript.
    • Keywords: Mention 3-5 specific concepts crucial for indexing, separated by semicolons (;). Use Calibri font, 10 pt.
    • Introduction: The introduction should outline the background of the research, explain the importance of the topic, and its contribution to the body of knowledge. It should also describe previous studies related to the research topic, identify research gaps, and state the research hypothesis (for quantitative studies) and objectives. Use Arial Nova font, 11 pt, spacing 1.15, justified.
    • Literature review: The literature review should include relevant theories or frameworks that support the research and help address the research questions. It should also explain the variables involved in the study. Authors are encouraged to critically evaluate past research, highlighting any controversies or gaps that the current research aims to address. Use Arial Nova font, 11 pt, spacing 1.15, justified.
    • Research methods: This section should describe the stages and procedures used to investigate the research problem and justify the techniques applied to collect, select, process, and analyze the data. It should include the type and approach of the research, resources used, data collection techniques, and data analysis methods. If applicable, describe the population and sample, and how they were determined. Authors should also discuss the limitations of their approach. Use Arial Nova font, 11 pt, spacing 1.15, justified.
    • Results and discussion: This section should present the findings of the research without unnecessary repetition of data. The discussion should explore the significance of the results, how they compare with previous studies, and any inconsistencies or unique findings. The discussion should be based on the results and should not merely repeat them. The presentation of results should follow the sequence of research questions or hypotheses. Use Arial Nova font, 11 pt, spacing 1.15, justified.
    • Conclusion: The conclusion should reflect on the research objectives and hypotheses. It should summarize the main findings and their implications, without repeating the results and discussion. Authors are encouraged to provide suggestions for future research, making them specific and actionable. Use Arial Nova font, 11 pt, spacing 1.15, justified.
    • References: The reference list should include full details of all sources cited in the article. It is recommended that references be from the last 10 years and listed alphabetically according to the APA referencing style (6th Edition). All references must be cited in the text, and all citations must be listed in the reference list. A DOI should be provided for each reference, if available. Authors must use reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero.
