The purpose of this study is to explore the talent management process at UIN Walisongo Semarang and to examine policies related to the talent management process. Design/methodology/approach – This study chose a mixed method as the research design. In the qualitative study, there were FGD methods and individual interviews, followed by 10 people selected by purposive sampling. Furthermore, the population was 968 lecturers and staff, while the selected sample had predetermined sample criteria and then distributed a quantitative questionnaire, all carried out at UIN Walisongo. The research findings of three main themes of talent management: talent attraction; talent development; and talent retention were explored by a qualitative study. The quantitative study examined the level of importance of the three explored talent management processes. Practical implications: This empirical study is one of the first to extend previous research on talent management processes across industries to the higher education sector. This study provides more debate to add more new ideas in educational strategic planning for higher education. This study offers added value to the talent management literature by designing quantitative measures of talent management processes for the education sector. This is because there is a lack of pragmatic evidence regarding talent management processes in the education sector. Furthermore, this study provides a clear and comprehensive outline of existing scientific research on talent management processes. Keywords: Talent management, talent attraction, talent development, talent retention, and performance.
