About the Journal
Journal of Religion and Diversity is an international journal established by the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Humanities, Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo, Semarang, in 2026. JRD is a peer-reviewed international scientific journal dedicated to the critical and interdisciplinary study of religion in various social contexts. The journal aims to advance academic discussions on how religious differences are experienced, negotiated, represented, institutionalized, debated, and transformed in various societies, both historical and contemporary. The journal accepts high-quality original research articles that use theoretical, empirical, comparative, and methodological approaches. The journal encourages contributions that examine the intersection of religion with broader social dynamics, including pluralism, identity formation, culture, politics, migration, gender, race, media, and public life.
Particular attention is given to studies that explore religious diversity and pluralism; interreligious relations and coexistence; the experiences of minority and marginalized religious communities; lived religion in everyday contexts; religion in relation to migration, diaspora, and transnational networks; and the role of religion in shaping and responding to issues of gender, race, ethnicity, and class. In addition, the journal promotes scholarship on religion in public spaces and policy; religion in media and digital cultures; and the role of religion in conflict, peacebuilding, and social cohesion. It also seeks to foreground decolonial and postcolonial perspectives, as well as contributions from and about the Global South, to broaden the scope of contemporary religious studies.
All manuscripts submitted to JRD must be written in English and undergo a strict double-blind peer-review process to maintain scholarly quality, originality, and academic relevance. The journal is published twice a year (June and December) and maintains an open-access policy to promote wider dissemination of scholarly work.
