Allegation of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct encompasses fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and plagiarism in the production, execution, review, documentation, or reporting of study findings. When authors are implicated in research misconduct or significant anomalies concerning published articles in scientific journals, editors are obligated to uphold the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record.

In instances of alleged misconduct, the editors and editorial board will adhere to the best practices established by COPE and the guidelines on research errors, falsification, and fabrication provided by Elsevier to effectively resolve complaints and address misbehavior equitably. This will entail an inquiry into the editors' allegation. A paper identified as including wrongdoing will be rejected. When a published study is determined to entail misconduct, a retraction will be issued and associated with the original publication.

The initial phase in this process entails evaluating the legitimacy of the complaint and determining its alignment with the criteria of research misconduct. This also entails assessing whether the individuals claiming misbehavior possess pertinent conflicts of interest.

In the event of potential scientific misconduct or significant research irregularities, the allegations will be communicated to the corresponding author, who will be asked to furnish a comprehensive response on behalf of all co-authors. Upon receipt and assessment of the response, further evaluations and the engagement of specialists (including statistical reviewers) may be required. In instances where wrongdoing is improbable, clarifications or supplementary analyses, published as letters to the editor and frequently accompanied by a correction notice and amendment to the original piece, are adequate.

Institutions are required to perform a comprehensive and meticulous investigation of claims of scientific misconduct. Ultimately, authors, journals, and institutions bear a significant responsibility to guarantee the precision of scientific records. By adequately addressing concerns regarding scientific misconduct and implementing necessary measures based on the assessment of these concerns, including corrections, retractions with replacement, or retractions, Economica: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam will maintain its obligation to uphold the validity and integrity of the scientific record.

The elucidation of allegations about research misconduct adheres to the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the allegations of research errors, falsification, and fabrication as outlined by Elsevier, accessible here.
