Economica: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam (E-ISSN 2541-4666; P-ISSN 2085-9325) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published biannually, in May and November, by the Institute of Islamic Economic Research and Development (LP2EI), Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang, Indonesia. Established in 2010, the journal publishes rigorous theoretical, empirical, and policy-oriented research in Islamic economics and business. What distinguishes Economica within its field is its editorial priority on research examining how Islamic economic theory, institutions, and practices respond to contemporary economic challenges and the global sustainability agenda - positioning the journal at the intersection of Islamic economic thought, inclusive welfare, and sustainable development.
Economica holds the highest national recognition for scholarly journals in Indonesia, having been accredited SINTA 1 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Decree No. 355/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026), after maintaining SINTA 2 status continuously since 2018. This trajectory has been reinforced by competitive institutional support, including the Journal Quality Improvement Grant (2019) and the Internationally Reputable Journal Quality Improvement Grant (2020) from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as a strategic partnership with the Center of Strategic Studies of the National Zakat Board (PUSKAS BAZNAS) since 2021, which strengthens the journal's engagement with the Islamic social finance practitioner community.
The journal has published exclusively in English since 2019 and has developed a genuinely international authorship profile, with contributors from twenty-five countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. Its scholarly impact is reflected in 217 citations recorded in Scopus, and its content is indexed in DOAJ, OpenAlex, Dimensions, CrossRef, Google Scholar, SINTA, and Garuda, with a unique DOI assigned to every article under the prefix 10.21580/economica.
To safeguard the quality and integrity of its publications, Economica applies a rigorous double-blind peer-review system, screens all submissions for plagiarism, and has adopted a formal Artificial Intelligence Policy - among the earlier Indonesian journals in its field to do so. Managed through Open Journal Systems with full workflow transparency, the journal publishes ten articles per issue since Volume 16 (2025) and remains committed to securing indexing in reputable international databases, foremost Scopus, as the next stage of its development.
