Islamic Communication Journal is a double-blind peer-reviewed publication that receives articles in the form of empirical research and the conceptual/theoretical studies on Islamic communication. Islamic Communication Journal focuses on disseminating all studies about Islam, da'wah, and communication with the scope of study on: (1) the development of Islamic communication science; (2) Islamic media (old and new media); (3) da'wah, broadcasting, and journalism; (4) Islam, communication/media, and social changes; (5) Islam, communication, and community development; (6) Islam and public relations; (7) Islam and political communication; (8) Islam and organizational communication; (9) Islam and bussiness communication, and (10) virtual/online religion, etc.
 
Islamic Communication Journal is published twice a year, June and December, by the Department of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting, Faculty of Da’wa and Communication, UIN Walisongo Semarang. Since June 27, 2019, Islamic Communication Journal collaborated with professional institutions, namely the Indonesian Da’wa Profession Association (Asosiasi Profesi Dakwah Indonesia/APDI) and the Association of Da’wa Science Journal Managers (Perkumpulan Pengelola Jurnal Ilmu Dakwah/PPJID). In its development, in March 2021 the Islamic Communication Journal collaborated with ASKOPIS (Association of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Programs) in order to improve the quality of the journal.
 
Islamic Communication Journal has been accredited as a scientific journal by The Ministry of Education and Culture, the Republic of Indonesia, on the 2nd level (SINTA 2) based on the Decree of Mendikbud No. 152/E/KPT/2023, valid until Vol. 12 No. 1 (2027). This journal has been indexed in several databases such as Dimensions, Google Scholar, Crossreff, GARUDA, Open AIRE, ROAD, BASE. etc.

There are several important changes in this journal, as follows:

1. Since Vol. 7 No. 1 (2022), Islamic Communication Journal began to involve reviewers from across countries.
2. In Vol. 7 Number 1 (2022) also Islamic Communication Journal began to change the article template from two columns to one column.
3. Then, for Vol. 7 No 2 (2022), Islamic Communication Journal again reworked the article template by removing the "literature review" section (then adding it to the introduction section) according to the assessor's notes at the time of accreditation in 2020.
