About the Journal

Focus and Scope

SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education focuses on topics related to all manuscript of mathematics education and pure mathematics used in the development of secondary or higher education. We aim to disseminate not only research on mathematics education including learning mathematics, evaluating of mathematics learning, mathematics learning methods, developing mathematics props, qualitative studies in mathematics learning, ethnomatematics, content of unity of sciences in learning, and scientific studies, but also research in pure mathematics including real analysis, geometry, algebra, applied mathematics, mathematical computation, and statistics.

 

Peer Review Process

SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education is issued two times a year, written in Indonesian language. It focuses on research on pure mathematics and mathematics education. Each manuscript go through a fair, double blind peer-review process.

All manuscripts submitted to this journal must follow focus, scope, and the author guidelines of this journal. The submitted manuscripts must address scientific merit or novelty appropriate to the focus and scope. All manuscripts must be free from plagiarism contents. All authors are suggested to use plagiarism detection software to do the similarity checking. Editors check the plagiarism detection of articles in this journal by using a Turnitin software.

The research article submitted to this journal will be double-blind peer-reviewed at least 1 (one) or more expert reviewers. The reviewers give scientific valuable comments improving the contents of the manuscript.

Final decision of articles acceptance will be made by editors according to reviewers comments. Publication of accepted articles including the sequence of published articles will be made by Editor in Chief by considering sequence of accepted date and geographical distribution of authors as well as thematic issue.

Publication Frequency

Square: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education is published twice a year, on April and October.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

This journal is open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to users or institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to full text articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or author. 

Publication Ethics

SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education is a peer-reviewed journal. This journal follows guidelines from Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct. This statement clarifies ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, the peer-reviewer­­­­­ and the publisher (Mathematics Department of UIN Walisongo Semarang). SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education are dedicated to following best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and the journals do not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education adapts COPE to meet high quality standard of ethics for publisher, editors, authors, and reviewers. As an essential issue, publication ethics needs to be explained clearly to improve the quality of the research worldwide. In this part, we explain the standard for editors, authors, and reviewers. Publisher don’t have right to interfere with the integrity of the contents and only support to publish in timely manner.

For Editors

  1. Based on the review report of the editorial review board, the editor can accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.
  2. Editors should be responsible for every articles published in SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education
  3. The editors may communicate with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.
  4. An editor has to evaluate the manuscript objectively for publication, judging each on its quality without looking to nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors. He/she should decline his/her assignment when there is a potential of conflict of interest.
  5. Editors need to ensure the document sent to the reviewer does not contain the information of the author, vice versa.
  6. Editors’ decision should be informed to authors accompanied by reviewers’ comments unless they contain offensive or libelous remarks.
  7. Editors should respect requests from authors that an individual should not review the submission, if these are well-reasoned and practicable.
  8. Editors and all staffs should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
  9. Editors will be guided by COPE flowcharts if there is a suspected misconduct or disputed authorship.

 For Reviewers

  1. Reviewers need to comment on ethical questions and possible research and publication misconduct.
  2. Reviewers will do the work in timely manner and should notify editor if they can not complete the work.
  3. Reviewers need to keep the confidentiality of the manuscript.
  4. Reviewers should not accept to review the manuscripts in which there is potential conflict of interest between them and any of the authors.

For Authors

  1. Author(s) affirm that the material has not been previously published and that they have not trans­ferred elsewhere any rights to the article.
  2. Author(s) should ensure the originality of the work and they have properly cited others’ work in accordance of the references format.
  3. Author(s) should not engage in plagiarism nor self-plagiarism.
  4. Author(s) should ensure that they follow the authorship criteria that are taken from SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education that is explained in instruction for author of  SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education
  5. Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. It is also expected that the author will not publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal.
  6. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have made significant contribution must be listed as co-authors. Authors also ensure that all the authors have seen and agreed to the submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion of names as co-authors.
  7. The author(s) haven’t suggested any personal information that may make the identity of the patient recognizable in any forms of description part, photograph or pedigree.
  8. Author(s) should give the editor the data and details of the work, if there are suspicions of data falsification or fabrication.
  9. If at any point of time, the author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editor.
  10. Authors of the journal should clarify everything that may cause conflict of interests such as work, research expenses, consul­tant expenses, and intellectual property on the document of  SQUARE: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education form disclosure.

Screening Plagiarism

All manuscripts must be free from plagiarism contents. All authors are suggested to use plagiarism detection software to do the similarity checking. Editors check the plagiarism detection of articles in this journal by using a Turnitin software. The manuscript is passed if the similarity is less than 25% (exclude sources that are less than 1%).

Plagiarism includes:

  1. Word for word plagiarism – borrowing another author’s language word-for-word but not putting the language in quotation marks nor citing it correctly.

  2. Source plagiarism – using the idea of others without giving enough recognition or mentioning the source explicitly.

  3. Plagiarism of authorship – presenting another author's work as one’s own.

  4. Self-plagiarism – authors publishing one article in more than one journal by recycling papers. The important thing in self-plagiarism is that when citing one's own work, the new article produced must have significant changes. This means that the article is a small part of the new articles produced. So readers will get new things, which the author pours over new articles from old articles.

Allegations of Research Misconducts

Research misconduct means fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, or plagiarism in producing, performing, or reviewing research and writing an article by authors, or in reporting research results. When authors are found to have been involved with research misconduct or other serious irregularities involving articles that have been published in scientific journals, Editors have a responsibility to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record.

In cases of suspected misconduct, the Editors and Editorial Board will use the best practices of COPE to assist them to resolve the complaint and address the misconduct fairly. This will include an investigation of the allegation by the Editors. A submitted manuscript that is found to contain such misconduct will be rejected. In cases where a published paper is found to contain such misconduct, a retraction can be published and will be linked to the original article.

The first step involves determining the validity of the allegation and an assessment of whether the allegation is consistent with the definition of research misconduct. This initial step also involves determining whether the individuals alleging misconduct have relevant conflicts of interest. 

If scientific misconduct or the presence of other substantial research irregularities is a possibility, the allegations are shared with the corresponding author, who, on behalf of all of the co-authors, is requested to provide a detailed response. After the response is received and evaluated, additional review and involvement of experts (such as statistical reviewers) may be obtained. For cases in which it is unlikely that misconduct has occurred, clarifications, additional analyses, or both, published as letters to the editor, and often including a correction notice and correction to the published article are sufficient. 

Institutions are expected to conduct an appropriate and thorough investigation of allegations of scientific misconduct. Ultimately, authors, journals, and institutions have an important obligation to ensure the accuracy of the scientific record. By responding appropriately to concerns about scientific misconduct, and taking necessary actions based on evaluation of these concerns, such as corrections, retractions with replacement, and retractions, Square: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education journal will continue to fulfill the responsibilities of ensuring the validity and integrity of the scientific record.

Retraction

The papers published in Square: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education is considered to retract in the publication if :

  1. They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error),
  2. the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (i.e., cases of redundant publication),
  3. it constitutes plagiarism, and
  4. it reports unethical research.

The mechanism of retraction follows the Retraction Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which can be accessed at https://publicationethics.org/files/retraction%20guidelines.pdf.

Author Fees

Square: Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education does not charges any submission or publication fees. No fees incurred for article processing: submission, neither reviewing the articles. Under the aforementioned condition, we are waiving in full for authors that need to this journal. We do not want fees to prevent the publication of worthy work.
