Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender – is published by the Center for Gender and Child Studies, LP2M, Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo, Semarang. The journal was launched in 2006 and issued two times a year, every April and October. Editors of Sawwa invite scholarly articles on gender and child studies from multiple disciplines and perspectives, including religion, education, psychology, law, social studies, etc.

In the management of the Sawwa, there have been many dynamics and changes, including:

  1. Initially, the scope of the journal was limited to gender studies, based on ISSN LIPI’s Decree for print publication. Later on, to accommodate overlapping topics on child studies, we modified the name to Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender dan Anak. After a discussion with the ISSN Office of PDII-LIPI, while proposing ISSN (for online media), in 2017, we changed the name back to its origin, based on the first decree, ie. Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender. Hence, although the term is “Jurnal Studi Gender,” the designation of the journal covers topics on both gender and child.
  2. Based on the Decree of the Director-General of Strengthening Research and Development of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education No. 48a/E/KPT/2017, (dated October 30th, 2017), Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender was accredited on Rank 2 (SINTA 2).
  3. Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender was awarded Publication Grant by the Funding Program for Research-Based Journal Accreditation in 2018 from The Directorate of Islamic Higher Education, Directorate General of Islamic Education, Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. (See Decree)
  4. Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender was awarded funding for Research-Based Journal Accreditation in 2019 from The Directorate of Islamic Higher Education, Directorate General of Islamic Education, Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. (See Decree)
  5. Starting from the 2018 edition, the editor made changes to the layout design. In the 2017 edition, the editor predominantly uses the Calisto font, but since the 2018 edition, the editor predominantly uses the Calibri and Cambria fonts. Layout changes can be seen in the following display.
  6. Starting from the 2020 edition, Sawwa: Jurnal Studi Gender has published all articles in English.
