Ownership and Management

Jurnal Theologia, the official scientific journal of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Humanities at Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo, Semarang, is under the official ownership of the faculty's dean (see journal ownership letter/certificate). This journal serves as an academic forum, encouraging, developing, and promoting theological studies within the framework of contemporary Islamic scholarship. It also facilitates scientific dialogue among researchers, lecturers, students, practitioners, and interested parties in the fields of Islamic theology and humanities.

The journal's content scope encompasses a broad range of topics relevant to Islamic theology, the philosophy of religion, religious thought, Islamic humanities, and related interdisciplinary approaches. Logistically and operationally, the journal is fully supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Humanities.

Nevertheless, the editor-in-chief has full scientific independence in determining the journal's academic direction and content. This independence ensures that no party—including the journal's owner—can exert pressure, intervene, or manipulate scientific editorial decisions. However, the editor-in-chief remains morally and professionally responsible to the journal owner and the editorial board, particularly regarding transparency, accountability, and adherence to ethical standards for scientific publication. For more information on the principle of editorial independence, please refer to the journal's editorial policy.

The responsibilities of journal ownership are based on the principles adopted by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which are proportionally adapted in the context of social sciences and humanities journals. Within this framework, the journal owner (Faculty Dean) has the authority to:

- Appoint and dismiss the Editor-in-Chief,

- Provide a contract or appointment letter that clearly outlines the rights, obligations, authorities, term of office, and conflict resolution mechanisms.

- Evaluate editorial performance based on mutually agreed-upon indicators—such as the number of manuscripts submitted, manuscript processing time, publication quality, and other journal metrics.

The appointment of the editor-in-chief is made officially through a dean's decree, while dismissal can only be made for substantive reasons, such as:

- Ethical violations or scientific malpractice,
- Inconsistency with the journal's long-term editorial direction,
- Performance that does not meet agreed standards, or
- Behavior that is inappropriate and contrary to the principles of public trust in academic and editorial positions.
With this management structure and principles, Jurnal Theologia is committed to maintaining a balance between institutional accountability and academic independence to safeguard its integrity, credibility, and scientific contribution to the national and global academic landscape.
