Abstract

Parents of children with cancer face a range of emotional, spiritual, and practical challenges that often compel them to develop resilient coping mechanisms. This study, employing a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and participant observation, explores how tadabbur (contemplative reflection) on fiṭra (human innateness) reshapes how parents cope with their child's illness at YKAKI (Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia) in Semarang. It also investigates how internalizing tadabbur fiṭra influences their coping strategies. The findings indicate that embracing tadabbur fit}ra helps parents reconnect with their innate trust in God (tawakkal), gratitude (shukr), and acceptance (rid}a>), strengthening their spiritual resilience and emotional stability. These insights underscore the potential for spiritual practices to enhance psychosocial interventions for similar contexts. By internalizing tadabbur fiṭra, parents can improve their well-being and better support their children through health crises.

Contribution: This study contributes to the intersection of spirituality, health psychology, and family resilience, offering practical implications for spirituality-based healthcare programs.
