Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Economica: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam must conform to the Focus and Scope and follow the Author Guidelines. This journal is committed to the novelty and scholarly contribution of the research it publishes. Submissions offering original theoretical, empirical, or policy-oriented contributions to Islamic economics and business — particularly those examining how Islamic economic theory, institutions, and practices respond to contemporary economic challenges and the global sustainability agenda — are most welcome.

Authors are advised to strictly comply with Ethical Standards in the conduct of research involving human participants, including surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, field experiments, and behavioural studies. Such research must be conducted on the basis of informed consent, with participant anonymity and data confidentiality preserved. Any study involving experimental treatment, incentivised decision tasks, or interventions with vulnerable respondents must include evidence or a statement supporting Ethical Clearance. Research drawing on proprietary or non-public data from Islamic financial institutions, zakat and waqf bodies, or business entities must include a statement confirming that the data were obtained and used with the institution's permission.

Manuscripts should be formatted according to the writing pattern of scientific journals. The rules set out in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition should be followed. You may use Mendeley reference management software, and select the setting for the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition. References should predominantly come from primary sources, with a substantial proportion drawn from journal articles published within the last ten years.

Manuscripts submitted to this journal must be written in English. English manuscripts are preferred to follow a good standard of grammatical rules. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread before submission.

Authors need to confirm that the work has not been published or submitted previously for publication elsewhere. To verify originality, all manuscripts will be checked by Turnitin (plagiarism detection software). Authors are suggested to use the online service from Turnitin™ to check the similarity. These journal editors will also check the similarity using the same online service, with a threshold of 20% maximum similarity based on the Turnitin™ result output, excluding the reference list and properly attributed quotations.

The use of generative artificial intelligence in the preparation of manuscripts is governed by the journal's Artificial Intelligence Policy. Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in the writing or analytical process, and remain fully accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the submitted work. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

All manuscripts submitted to this journal will be reviewed in a closed (double-blind peer review), which means the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa. All manuscripts will be initially assessed by the Editor-in-Chief regarding their suitability for the journal. Papers considered suitable by the Editors are then sent to a minimum of three independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. Where the reviewers' recommendations diverge substantially, an additional reviewer may be engaged to provide a decisive assessment. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final.

The final decision of manuscript acceptance is solely made by the Editor-in-Chief and/or Handling Editor (together with the Editorial Board, if required) according to reviewers' critical comments, but not solely by the Reviewer.

Publication of accepted articles, including assigning the article to the published issues, will be made by the Editor-in-Chief by considering the sequence of accepted dates and the geographical distribution of authors as well as thematic coherence of the issue.
