History of Economica: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam - Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang
Economica: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam was first published in 2010 by the Faculty of Sharia of the then IAIN Walisongo Semarang, the forerunner of today's Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, as a scholarly platform dedicated to Islamic economics in Indonesia. It initially appeared in print under p-ISSN 2085-9325, with two Indonesian-language issues a year. Editorial responsibility moved to LP2EI after the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business was established in 2013, and the publisher's name was updated when IAIN Walisongo became UIN Walisongo in 2014.
The journal entered a fully digital era in 2016 with the issuance of e-ISSN 2541-4666 and the adoption of OJS 2.4.8. In 2017 it was indexed in DOAJ and became a CrossRef member, assigning DOIs under the prefix 10.21580/economica. After initially being listed as Rank 4 on the SINTA portal, Economica was accredited SINTA Rank 2 under Decree Number 34/E/KPT/2018 dated 10 December 2018, one of seven UIN Walisongo journals holding that rank at the time.
In 2019, all articles transitioned to English, supported by two successive Ministry of Religious Affairs quality grants. In 2021, the journal retained Rank 2 at re-accreditation, began a partnership with PUSKAS BAZNAS, and expanded its authorship to seven countries within a single issue.
Consolidation followed with a new article template in 2022 and migration to OJS 3.3 in 2024. From Volume 16 in 2025, capacity rose to ten articles per issue, the schedule shifted to May and November, and a formal Artificial Intelligence Policy was adopted. These efforts culminated in Economica's elevation to SINTA 1 under Decree Number 355/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 dated 24 July 2026, valid from Volume 16 Number 1 (2025) through Volume 20 Number 2 (2029).
